Every year I seem to JUST miss the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration and swear that the following year I'm going to make sure I don't forget. By some miracle this year I actually remembered and even managed to wrangle a few people to come down to the procession with me. Día de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday when family and friends gather to honor the dead and remember loved ones who have passed. The Austin celebration has been sponsored for the past 25 years by the Mexic-Arte Museum. They are dedicated to developing awareness of Día de los Muertos and sharing its importance to our community. If you missed the celebration, they have an alter exhibition thru Nov 9 (as well as some great pieces in their Young Latino series, also up thru Nov 9).
